Hello from Town of Waukesha
 Board Chairman
Angie E. Van Scyoc

Greetings!

There are hints spring is around the corner. I can't wait for some warm weather and the ability to enjoy being outside with a gardening trowel vs. a snow shovel.

Tomorrow is Election Day. The outcome of this election will be pivotal, and in my opinion, the future of the Town of Waukesha will be changed forever by your decision.
As you know, much has been said about Town related issues by others in the last few months, some true, most not.
My husband David and I have lived in the Town for almost 30 years and have never seen an election like this one.

Yesterday's illegal antics included placing signs next to mine on private property that said "The liberal's choice".
In a county with the highest percentage of Republican voters in Wisconsin. This is a non-partisan elected position.
I am a fiscal conservative, always have been, always will be.
Ongoing illegal activity includes the destruction and removal of my campaign signs.
So, to the question. Is the hoopla because of personality conflicts? No way.
There has been a protracted effort to discredit me in order to change leadership and direction in the Town through this election.
Why? Because there is much at stake.
The availability of our land and our resources.
The city of Waukesha and local developers have salivated over the easy pickings our of our town, forever.
That changed with the election in 2010.
We know we should be in charge of our future, and now we are.
A simple example is the decision on the Water Service Area which creates a border limiting further annexation of Town lands into the city.

My opponent, a local real estate developer, favors including the entire Town, his position just revealed last week Sunday.
Thank goodness he finally came out with a position on this matter, a crystal clear difference.
I believe the Town needs to protect itself. It has been ravaged for years, our land and most recently the attempt to take our water.
Our efforts since 2010 have succeeded in protecting us.
I am who I have always been, a tireless advocate for the Town of Waukesha.
Fear mongering is the most recent attack. Attempting to discredit the work done over two years to set the Water Service Area boundaries.
It is an incredible victory for the Town and our success is at great risk tomorrow.
We have worked closely with the DNR  during this time, educating ourselves on this complicated decision.
We are not putting our friends and neighbors at risk like my opponent likes to spew. In fact, just the opposite.
We are in control of our future, no longer being controlled by those who profit by our losses.
We have options available to us that do not include being in the clutches of the city of Waukesha Water Utility.
They would just like us to think we need them.
We don't.
I have written an opinion piece, parts were in the Friday Freeman. It was originally longer, I was asked to cut it down to 500 words by the Freeman, negotiated for a bit more.
This past Saturday a negative op ed piece was given 1250 words in the Freeman, go figure.

The Fight for the Town of Waukesha

By Angie E. Van Scyoc, Town Chairman

Your vote on April 2nd is critical to the future of the Town of Waukesha. Big money is hard at work.

A week ago Saturday we had the double line up of Supervisor Everett German and Town Chairman candidate John Marek on the editorial pages deck of the Waukesha Freeman. Double dose of outright tripe.

The duet about budget amendments has run its course. The reality is the Town always did its budget amendments in March or April. The amendments have now been presented, twice. Supervisors Everett German and Brian Fischer have denied passage, twice. Could it be if they approve them then they, and their candidate John Marek, could no longer use it as campaign fodder?

Let's concentrate on John's published letter. His beginning salvo is false. John is new to the scene, only regularly attending board meetings since announcing his candidacy in December.

He makes a claim regarding additional public hearing requirements - that is a false statement.

He infers that I alone decided that a limited portion of the Town is included in the city water service area - that is false - it was a unanimous decision by the Board January 24, 2013.

He claims that the Town has been in a water service area for 40 years - that is false - that decision was finalized January 24, 2013.

He references the contamination in Jackson to create fear - the Jackson issue resulted from a pipeline that ran through that community; we have no pipelines, no gasoline stations, etc. The fact is, like us, the entire Town of Brookfield uses shallow aquifer as a water source, as does the western half of New Berlin and communities south and west of us. None are being asked to join the city water service area for safety sake. Why? Because safety is not the trigger - development is. Annexation to the city has been going on for decades, decimating our community.

John and his friends are working overtime to potentially reverse the decision of the board and put the town fully in the city water service area. Who does John intend to serve if he is successful? Not the homeowners of our community who will need to pay higher taxes as more lands are removed by annexation from our tax roles. No surprise, John is a real estate developer.

John claims Supervisor Banske thinks we should use bottled water and composting toilets? Really? I know Joe enjoys a relaxing vacation in the northwoods occasionally, but I have never heard him say he would like to try that program at home. Another of John Marek's ridiculous representations.

Some town homeowners have sewer and water from the city. There are two areas - one in and around Sunset Drive through a negotiation in the 1980's between the Town and the City. The other area is just east of the corner of on Highway 164 and Highway 59 where there is a closed fly ash site.

Inclusion is very limited in scope. Common sense dictates that if the city allowed town property owners access to water and sewer without annexation we would not have lost such a vast amount of acreage to the city over the years.

John mentions the 288 acres, and again refers to it as an annexation. John, it is an INCORPORATION. Different process, different statutes.  The Town of Brookfield started the INCORPORATION attempt AFTER they got the TIF. They are pressing forward so how does John reconcile that? Are we wasting money? Well then the City of Waukesha, the City of Brookfield and the Village of Sussex are in the pool with us as they are all in the legal battle against the Town of Brookfield's aggressive actions.

We haven't wasted money; we have fought and won for our Town. We have first and foremost represented the property owners. Throughout we have been successful developing areas of the town, IN THE TOWN.

John has refused to attend open question and answer sessions to discuss his representations with our constituents. No supporting facts, no willingness to debate the issues. But big money spent on front page ads and signs on every corporate street corner and large tracts of land. Yikes.

How John reconciles his representations as 'facts' is mindboggling. He is campaigning for a position of trust in our community.

Bottom line, if you wish to protect property owner interests and the Town of Waukesha, please cast your vote for Larry Wolf and me.

If you wish to support the interests of big land owners and developers, vote for John Marek and Everett German.

It is as simple as that.

I have represented and protected the interests of the Town of Waukesha diligently and successfully. We have succeeded so well as to bring out the big money and related orchestrated effort to discredit me to attempt to change Town leadership through this election.

Your vote for me on April 2nd is a vote to staunchly protect our Town. I pledge to continue to fight to keep the Town secure and to manage proactively so that we chart our own course and determine our own future.

I would appreciate your vote April 2nd

Together, let's continue to protect the Town of Waukesha.

Sincerely,
